Dr. Seuss Week

We had SO much fun celebrating Dr. Seuss and Read Across America week last week! We kicked off our celebration with Dr. Seuss' most popular story, The Cat in the Hat, where we turned ourselves into Thing 1 and Thing 2 or The Cat in the Hat! We continued the week with some of Dr. Seuss' classic books:  There's a Wocket in my Pocket,  when we made our own silly rhymes and Wocket's, Oh The Places You'll Go,  when we imagined all of the things are future could hold, Wacky Wednesday, when so many wacky things happened, and Green Eggs and Ham, when we got to make our own Green Eggs and Ham! It was a Seusstastic week of reading, crafts, and lots of fun!!

Happy Valentine's Day

We had a great day celebrating Valentine's Day! This week we lead up to the special day by reading lots of books about love and caring. We talked about how we feel loved, and the sweet things we do for others. In math, we measured just how much we loved with many different measuring tools. Then we had a great Valentine's celebration! We decorated bags, made Valentine art projects, and decorated cookies. Then we passed out all of our Valentine's too our friends. And we ended the day with some fun games- including "cookie face"- trying to get a cookie into our mouth without our hands! Thanks to all of the parents who came to help and celebrate with us!

Happy 100th Day

Last Friday, February 9th, we had a super fun day celebrating a GIANT Kindergarten milestone: The 100th Day of School! The kiddo's were SO excited to be 100 days smarter. We spent the whole week preparing by making pizzas with 100 toppings, decorating the classroom and hallways, writing 100 reasons we loved Kindergarten, and doing STEM challenges with 100 things. Then the big day finally arrived (one day late, thanks to Mother Nature). We arrived ready to celebrate, walking through the giant 100 and wearing our 100th day t-shirts proudly! The students rotated to each classroom to do 100th day activities, including making a hat, making their name with 100 cheerios, doing 100th day olympics, and creating a portrait of their 100 year old self- thanks to Mrs. Grant's 100 year old Granny Grant for helping! Our afternoon was filled with a hunt for 100 hershey kisses, working on our math with our 100 collections, and of course- 100th day cupcakes! It was a super fun day, and one that I hope they will always remember! Happy 100th Day!

Gingerbread Celebration

We had a great afternoon on Thursday wrapping up our Gingerbread unit with our gingerbread celebration. The students have been working hard on writing their own version of The Gingerbread Man- and the stories turned out fantastic!! During our celebration, the students created paper gingerbread houses for their characters. Then we made our characters out of foam to put into our houses. The students also got to create a foam gingerbread door hanger, and decorate a gingerbread man cookie (with LOTS of candy treats)!! Overall it was a wonderful celebration and a great way to end our week! Thank you to all of the volunteers who came to help out!

Happy 50th Day!

Today we hopped in our time machine and traveled back to the 1950's to celebrate our 50th Day of School! We learned all about how life was different back then (milk men, black and white TV, NO iPADS!!!). Then we celebrated in 50's style! We made root beer float crafts and the real thing- so yummy! Then we learned how to blow bubbles with bubble gum, practiced our hula hooping skills, and learned some classic 1950's dances! We had a great 50th day- half way to 100!

Happy Halloween!

We had a great Halloween celebration today at the annual Fallsmead Halloween parade and our first class party of the school year! The students loved all of the decorations in our classroom, and had some great costumes to show off during the parade. Then we enjoyed games, crafts, and snacks back in our room! Thank you so much to all of the parents who came in throughout the day to help with setting up and with the party. A special thanks to our room parents for all of the planning! Happy Halloween!

Pumpkin Patch

We had so much fun on our field trip to Butler's Orchard Pumpkin Patch! The weather was great (although a little cold) and everyone enjoyed the slides, corn maze, animals, and especially the hayride and pumpkins! Thank you so much to all of the chaperones who came out to help us! Check out our pictures here!
